Six greyhounds will battle it out for Star Sports & TRC Greyhound Derby glory on Saturday night at Towcester Stadium and connections of the whole sextet will fancy their chances of claiming the prestigious crown.

Pat Buckley's Deerjet Sydney will attempt to emulate the mighty Rapid Ranger and Westmead Hawk by winning back-to-back renewals of the four-bend showpiece, and he will be a prominent figure in the betting. Magnificent throughout the early rounds of the competition, Deerjet Sydney suffered his first defeat last weekend in the semi-final, but he can bounce back to form with aplomb.

Ballymac Fairone, who defeated Buckley's charge in the semi-final, is challenging for favouritism with the 2020 champ and the pair are set to lock horns at the first bend once again. Deerjet Sydney has been handed trap two, while Ballymac Fairone is on his outside in three. Both have shown tremendous early pace during the event, and Fairone managed to outpace his market rival last weekend. But, Deerjet Sydney will benefit from holding an inside berth, and with the pair likely to be able to outpace Newinn Session on their inside in trap one then Buckley's raider can get on the bunny down the back straight.

A fine winner of his semi-final last week, Newinn Session has stormed into contention for this prize, but while he should put up a bold effort, he will just fall short against the speedier pair on his outside.

The remaining trio are drawn in four, five and six, and Kilara Lion will be the huge outsider for the final, and from trap four may just struggle to live with those on his inside. Liam Dowling's Ballymac Wild has been a real model of consistency throughout the competition, and he chased home Ballymac Fairone on Saturday, but from trap five he has it all to do, and may find it tough.

Thorn Falcon is the sole wide runner in the field, and the Patrick Janssens-trained raider has a plot draw against the five railers, as any early scrimmaging on the inside he can benefit from, as he will be staying wide throughout the early stages. A strong-running dog, Thorn Falcon could be a potential thorn in the side of the front few in the betting, and if he can keep out of trouble then he could well sneak into the frame, but it's all about Deerjet Sydney, who can reign supreme once again.
