Clares Rocket Ruled Out Of Irish Greyhound Derby
- 11 Sep 2017 11:40AM
Clares Rocket has been ruled out of the 2017 Boylesports Irish Greyhound Derby after picking up a wrist injury in Saturday's quarter-finals at Shelbourne Park, and the Graham Holland-trained superstar, who was sitting at the head of the betting, will now be retired.
Beaten a neck by Good News in Saturday's quarter-final, Clares Rocket has previously racked up a trio of wins in the competition, as he attempts to improve on his English Greyhound Derby finish, where he was a beaten finalist in the Towcester showpiece, but Holland's kennel star will now not be seen on the track again, after picking up this career-ending injury.
A greyhound that has made the front pages of national newspapers in recent times following a kidnapping scandal, it was Clares Rocket's performances on the track that propelled him into the limelight, but a glittering career is over for a dog-of-a-lifetime, and trap four will now be vacant in Saturday's second semi-final.
