RPGTV Scottish Derby
The Scottish Derby is a greyhound competition run at Shawfield over 480m and takes place between April and May and attracts some of the premier four-bend performers in the UK & Ireland, and is one of the leading events in the calendar, and often provides some vital clues for the English Greyhound Derby, which takes place at Towcester a few weeks after the action has concluded north of the border.
First held in 1928, the inaugural running of the Scottish Derby was won by Glinger Bank, and down the years some of the finest greyhounds in training have tasted victory in the event with Olives Best and Ballycurren Soldier just a couple of winners that have won the event more than once, while more recently Charlie Lister's Some Picture was a fine winner of the 1997 competition.
Farloe Verdict (2004) was another memorable winner for the Lister kennel, while Barrie Draper's Ballymac Eske was an odds-on winner of the 2013 Scottish Derby final, with Swift Hoffman (2015) just another top-class greyhound to have tasted success in what is one of the highlights of the entire season.
