The Select Stakes is a unique competition which sees a panel choose which six greyhounds competed for the coveted one-off race, which is currently run over 500m and takes place at Nottingham in late July.

Having been held at Wembley in its early days, when that venue closed it moved to Nottingham in 1997 and has continued to be a race that sees some of the elite four-bend performers do battle, and it's a race that takes place around the month after the Greyhound Derby at Towcester, so it can often see greyhounds that have competed in that event line up here.

The Scottish Greyhound Derby is another event that can throw up potential form clues for this race, and down the years has been won by some top notch four-bend greyhounds including Derby hero Some Picture, who won in 1996, while Jaspers Boy (1998, 1999), Cleenas Lady (2006,2007) and Jordansoilutions (2010, 2011) are a trio of class acts that have won won back-to-back Select Stakes crowns.

More recently, Daddy Knowsbest and Holdem Spy produced a dead-heat in the 2013 Select Stakes, while Swift Hoffman was a memorable winner of the 2015 Select Stakes, and adds more depth to what is a roll of honour littered with quality greyhounds.
